|What are the fire regulations for contract beds & mattresses?|
It is a legal requirement that if you are a business or organisation that wishes to use furniture that is not intended for domestic use then it must meet strict fire regulations. All beds, mattresses and divans must comply with Crib 5 / source 5 flammability standard BS7177 UK regulations. The regulations comprise of the following tests;
o BS EN597-1 (Cigarette)
o BS EN597-2 (Match)
o CRIB 5 - BS6807
Ignition resistance tests are carried out using a standard smoldering cigarette and simulated match flame. All of these tests are carried out on a section of mattress/bed base that replicates the make-up of the unit and the surface properties such as tufting, quilt lines and tape edges. Testing involves placing the sources of ignition on all of these surface features.
Does my establishment require contract beds or mattresses?
All of the following establishments are required by law to use 'contract' beds & mattresses as standard. Please note this list is not exhaustive.

If a mattress or a bed is to be used in a high risk area such as Oil rigs, Mental institutions and Prisons then it is a legal requirement that the product must meet Crib 7/ Source 7 flammability BS7177 UK regulations
